1. What is Upside Down Text?

Upside Down Text is text that's flipped upside down. You enter text (here), and our system flips it 180 degrees. So "hey!" becomes "¡ʎǝɥ".

2. How do I write upside down?

Visit our Upside Down Text Generator! Enter text in the upper box. Our system will flip your text upside down, and the upside down text will appear in the lower box. You can then copy + paste this upside down text to other websites, or use the Post To icons to send the flipped text to Facebook or Twitter.

3. Wait, can people actually write upside down?

Some [talented] people probably can, but we sure can't. If you need upside down text on paper, just visit our upside down text generator, copy the flipped text into Word, and print it out! Or if you really want to write, just write as you normally would on a piece of paper, and then turn the paper around.

4. What can I use Upside Down Text for?

Anything! Most people use it to create funky statuses on Facebook or Twitter. It's always a great way to attract attention and highlight a particular message among the clutter of other text. Try posting a funny status message on Facebook. Then try posting that same status message again, flipped upside down. We almost guarantee you'll get more "Likes" and comments for your upside down message :) Upside Down Text can also be used to create strong passwords (how many hackers would think of trying flipped text).

5. Where can you use Upside Down Text?

The beauty of Upside Down Text is that the flipped characters are actually text, not images. You can use our upside down text nearly everywhere - Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft Word, YouTube, MSN, AIM, Gmail (or other e-mail software), on forums, or blogs.

6. How can I reverse my text without flipping it upside down?

Under Text Effects, deselect the "Upside Down Effect (Flips text)" option. Your text will then be reversed, without the upside down effect being applied. So "hey!" will become "!yeh".

7. How can I flip my text upside down without reversing it?

Generally Upside Down Text looks better if it's reversed at the same time. This creates a sort of inverted, mirror text effect that makes the flipped words easier to read. But if you really want to disable the reverse effect, deselect the "Backwards Effect (Reverses text)" option under Text Effects. Your text will then be flipped upside down, without being reversed. So "hey!" will become "¡ʎǝɥ".

8. Can I rotate text in other directions (say 90 degrees)?

Without an image, text can only be flipped upside down (ie/ 180 degrees). The only way to flip text in other directions, is to embed your text in an image and rotate the image. These images can't be used on most websites.

9. How do I mirror text?

UpsideDownText.com cannot perfectly mirror text, but we can get you pretty close. To mirror text across the x-axis, deselect the Backwards Effects on our homepage, and make sure that the Upside Down Effect remains enabled. To mirror text across the y-axis, do the opposite: make sure that the Backwards Effect remains enabled, and deselect the Upside Down Effect. Please remember that this only an approximation of mirrored text, and is not exactly what you would see if you put up a piece of paper to a mirror.

10. How does your website flip text?

Each letter in the alphabet (a-z) has an upside down equivalent. The character "a" when flipped looks like an "ɐ". So when you enter an "a" onto our upside down generator, we match it to the letter "ɐ". We flip every character you enter in a similar manner. You can view our Unicode chart for information on the exact conversations we make.

11. Can't I just use Paint or Photoshop to flip my text?

Yes you can, but then you'd be generated a flipped image, not flipped text. Our website generates upside down text. Since it's text (and not an image), you can use it almost anywhere. An upside down image generated using Paint or Photoshop can't be used on Facebook or Twitter. Flipped text generated on our website can.

12. Can I type upside down without using your website?

The short answer is it's possible but not convenient. You can change your keyboard mappings so that keys on your keyboard match to upside down characters instead of the standard a-z. But that would make it difficult to type standard documents or text. For most people, it makes more sense to just use our flip text generator!

13. I have a website or blog. How can I allow my visitors to flip their text upside down?

We have just the widget for you! Check out our Upside Down Text Widget. Just copy the HTML code into your blog or website and your visitors will be able flip their text (while remaining on your website).

14. I Love Flipping Text! What can I do?
